6th grade Science
6th graders classifying organisms...in the REAL WORLD!
6th grade PreAP students spent their day at Bear Creek Park
classifying different organisms into the 6 currently recognized kingdoms.
Students used a GPS unit to find a specific animal, plant, fungus,
protist, or bacteria and then classify the organism based on its
characteristics. Students loved being able to see all the different organisms
at the park such as a ringworm that could infect a sheep, aspergillus rambellii
which could infect the lungs of a sick emu, to a pot bellied pig and oak tree.
One thing is for sure-- these students will never be able to look at
an organism without the words "eukaryote/prokaryote,
unicellular/multicellular, heterotroph/autotroph, sexual/asexual" running
through their minds. Science ROCKS!
Our GPS units were funded by the Katy ISD Education Foundation Inspiring Imagination Teacher Grants this past year.

Robotics
Yesterday, our Robotics Club had their robots moving
for the first time. So far, they have programmed the robots to produce sound
and have learned to program the lights in the scribbler. Some groups have even
coordinated the lights with sounds and movement. WOW! Way to go Jags!

Hour of Code hosted by Mrs. Limmer
This past week, students had the opportunity to participate in an international event called the Hour of CodeTM. Our students had a blast! This is our third year to host an event, and every year the number of students who participate grows larger.

8th Grade Science
Today
in 8th grade science students were experimenting with air pressure in a big
way! From making a barometer out of jars and balloons to the favorite
bashful balloon experiment, students learned about what happens when low
pressure moves to high pressure and how it can crush a can or even pull a giant
water balloon into a pickle jar.

8th Grade Science
In 8th grade, Ms. Psencik is creating an Interactive Word Wall to enhance the learning in her classroom. The students are recording this information in their Interactive Student Notebook and using it to demonstrate what they have learned about Newton's Three Laws of Motion.
